Florence Nightingale would have loved OLAP Reporting!
Did you know that Florence Nightingale, "The Lady with the Lamp", or "The Angel of the Crimea", was not only a pioneer of nursing and a reformer of hospital sanitation but also a skilled statistician? I recently read an interesting book ("Hon var ingen Florence Nightingale" by Åsa Moberg) about how Florence Nightingale systematized record-keeping practices and collected data, which she then used as a tool for improving hospital conditions.
To convince the authorities, Florence Nightingale represented her statistical data graphically. She even invented the pie chart, so there is no doubt that she would have loved our statistics and reporting tool, OLAP Reporting Tool for Excel! Florence Nightingale became a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society in 1858 and an honorary member of the American Statistical Association in 1874. Kate Kalmstrom Sales Thursday, August 21, 2008

| HelpDesk OSP with better statistics interface and support for NTLM.
Today we have released a new Beta version of HelpDesk for Outlook and SharePoint, which is valid until 10th September. The new version has several improvements. The Statistics now has an enhanced, more user-friendly interface such as data grid control to display tickets, resizable form and more control and responsiveness over SharePoint list query processes. A new feature is that SharePoint fields having alternative or choice datatype are now supported to be included in the statistics (.cub) HelpDesk OSP now also supports windows authentication (NTLM). This means, if HelpDesk OSP is used within a company network via a domain user account, it will make use of the windows authentication mode to connect to the SharePoint site (no login dialog will be displayed). If the application is used to connect to a SharePoint site outside of the company network (via the internet), it will however prompt for a valid user credential. For more information on the latest version of HelpDesk OSP, refer to the Revisions page. As always, you are very welcome to download and test our web based tool for issue tracking and user support. | Frequent updates ‒ necessary for all add-ins
Microsoft updates have given us certain problems with Windows Script Runtime. Therefore all our products have now been updated with a new registration encoding, without the script runtime requirement. The last one to be updated was SharePoint Attachments for Outlook, the application that easily publishes e-mail attachments to SharePoint sites and instead leaves a link in the e-mail. At the same time we extended the trial period for SP Attach to 30 days, so now all our applications have the same evaluation period ‒ except OLAP Reporting Tool for Excel, where we allow 90 days for the benefit of students of business intelligence. Also TimeCard for Outlook has been updated this week, due to a problem that occurred for some Vista users. Since we build our applications on top of Microsoft software, they have to be updated often to adapt to and take advantage of changes in the MS programs. The kalmstrom.com team includes several very good developers, so the updates are released quickly. For the customers the upgrades are very easy to perform. kalmstrom.com Support Customers may upgrade without cost as often as they wish, and we recommend users to always have the latest versions of our products. If you also use the latest MS Service Packs you have a good chance of avoiding problems! Kate Kalmstrom Sales Thursday, August 07, 2008

| HelpDesk OSP supports SSL The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a protocol for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. (By convention, URLs that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http:.) Most web servers use SSL for secure communication, so therefore HelpDesk for Outlook and SharePoint now has taken a big step forward when it works fully with SSL. Now HelpDesk OSP Statistics (HOSCub.exe) can extract/create a .cub file also from SharePoint lists that uses SSL, and the HelpDesk OSP Settings will ignore any certification error coming out of the secured SharePoint Site. The work continues and the interest is great, so I hope we can soon release the full version. Kate Kalmstrom Sales Thursday, July 24, 2008
